UMD: First university with in-house online voter registration

Shane Bryan, a Stamp Leadership and Community Service Learning liaison, and SGA President Sam Zwerling discuss a new in-house online voter registration system available to all University of Maryland students.

Finally, students can register to vote online, said Student Government Association President Sam Zwerling.

“Maryland is not only letting students vote in the place that they go to school, but it’s encouraging them,” she said.

More than 445 students have registered to vote with the online system in just two days, Zwerling said. Students can register to vote by simply logging into the system with their university directory ID and password and verifying information.

The University of Maryland is the first university in the country to provide students with an online registration system that directly links to the state Board of Elections system.

“Think about how many students we’ll get by October 16,” Zwerling said.
