The issue of the deficit is one that is deeply entrenched, Romney said.
“It’s not just an economic issue, but a moral issue,” Romney said. “It’s not moral for my generation to keep spending more than we take in.”
He wants lower spending and a rate of economic growth.
“You never balance the budget by raising taxes. Spain spends 42% of their economy on government. I don’t want to go down the path of Spain.”
Obama said Romney’s tax cuts would in fact harm the deficit.
“The magnitude of the tax cuts would result in a severe hardship for people but more importantly would not help us grow,” Obama said. “We’re talking about a 30 percent cut in Medicaid over time.”
Students cheered when Obama mentioned college, and wanting to help young people go to college.
