The 2012 Presidential Debates will be moderated by three journalists who combine for over 100 years of experience. Let’s get to know them a little better.
Jim Leher will be hosting the first debate on Wednesday, October 3 in Denver. A former news anchor on PBS NewsHour, Leher has moderated 11 presidential debates. He has spent most of his time writing books since he stepped down from position at PBS, but he still puts down the pen every four years to host the debates.
Candy Crowley will be the first woman in 20 years to moderate a presidential debate when she hosts on October 16 in Hempstead, NY. Crowley is currently CNN’s Chief Political Correspondent.
Bob Schieffer will be hosting the final debate on October 22 in Boca Raton, FL. Like Leher, Schieffer has hosted a presidential debate before. In 2004, he hosted the final debate between George W. Bush and John Kerry, then he hosted the final debate of the last presidential election. Schieffer was an anchor on CBS Evening News for 23 years before he got his gig at the debates.
